Inset into tall panels of St. Martins interior, artist David Hewson has installed two beautifully detailed gilded paintings, perfectly complimenting the 1880 Gothic-Victorian architecture of this charming church.
Gilding is an art form with roots in the master artists of the Renissance. Incorporating gilded elements of 24 karat gold over rich colors, Hewson portrays scenes like An Act of Kindness depicting one such act to the poor for which St. Martin of Tours, France was canonized. The Baptism of Jesus Christ by John the Baptist illustrates the baptism.
